How to keep long hair free of knots and tangles

Does your hair tangle the minute you set foot outside your house?  Are you constantly waging war on stubborn knots?  Tangled, knotty hair can be difficult to smooth, and constantly teasing knots out can result in damaged and broken hair.
Read our five tips for keeping your hair tangle and knot free and you’ll be well on your way to achieving the silky and manageable locks that you dream of.

Don’t wash hair too frequently
Whenever you wash your hair with shampoo you’re stripping your hair of the natural oils that the glands in your scalp produce to keep your hair healthy and shiny.  Without these oils your hair can become dull, dry, brittle, and prone to damage and tangles.  The most frequently that you should wash your hair is every other day to give your hair a break in between washes and allow the oils to moisturise your hair.

Brush your hair before washing it
If you jump straight out of bed and into the shower without brushing your hair then your tangled bed-head is going to get in an even bigger mess once you’ve massaged in the shampoo.  Make sure that you gently brush your hair to remove any knots before getting it wet.

Comb a nourishing conditioner through your hair
Keep your hair healthy and shiny by using a deep conditioning treatment once a week and you’ll find that your glossy locks are knot and tangle-free.

Use a detangling brush and spray
If your hair is particularly prone to tangles then it’s worth investing in a detangling brush and spray to tease the tangles out gently without causing damage to your hair.  If you have hair extensions in then it is better to use a wide-toothed comb to get rid of the tangles when your hair is wet.

Get your hair cut regularly
If you have dry split ends then your hair will be more prone to knotting and tangling.  You should aim to get your hair trimmed every 6-7 weeks to keep the split ends at bay and keep your hair silky and manageable.
